The regional juried exhibition HANDCRAFTED: Fiber Art & Turned Wood presents the work of 48 contemporary artists and fine craft artisans working in fiber art and turned wood. Presented at BlackRock on a biennial basis, this exhibit was open to submissions by artists residing in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, DC, and West Virginia. The 21 selected works of fiber art feature both traditional and experimental materials that employ textile techniques that include quilting, weaving, embroidery, knitting, sewing, beading, and mixed media along with current innovations in this evolving medium. The 48 selected works of turned wood include both functional and sculptural pieces created using the lathe, hand-held tools, and a steady hand to carve original turnings which demonstrate a wide range of forms that can be achieved on a rotating axis.

In this lecture, Sandra Smith presents her extensive quilt collection. She also shares the inspirations, techniques, and artistry used to create her work. She presents a chronology of work from the early creations to current inspirations and gives tips on where to get ideas for designing art quilts. Question and answer time follows the presentation.
This event is free, with donations being accepted at the door, however, registration is required to attend.
