Workshops

Due to COVID concerns, workshops are cancelled until further notice.

I am an art quilt designer whose work is featured in the book Spirits of the Cloth: Contemporary African American Quilts by Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi. My quilts have been displayed at the New England Quilt Museum, The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D. C., the American Craft Museum in New York, and many other venues. I have conducted numerous workshops with young children and adults throughout the nation. Contact me at to schedule a workshop.

"A Quilter's Portfolio"

Lecture fee: $450/group
Length: 1 to 2 hours
In this lecture, I present my extensive quilt collection. I also share the inspirations, techniques, and artistry used to create my work. I present a chronology of work from the early creations to current inspirations. I also give tips on where to get ideas for designing art quilts. Question and answer time follows the presentation.

"Bargello Quilt Design for Children"

Workshop fee: $400/group
Length: 3 to 4 hours
Limit: 4 to20 participants
Level:  Beginning to advanced
This three-hour workshop is geared to teachers and other people who work with children. Participants receive an overview of quilting techniques and tools. I demonstrate some of my incredible work and share insights and resources for materials. The focus of the workshop is the Bargello technique of quilt making. Participants make a quilt so be prepared to bring along any baubles, beads, or sequins to embellish your creation. All other materials are provided. In addition, follow-up activities for the classroom are given as well as a discussion of other possible classroom projects.

"Three Dimensional
Quilt Design"

Workshop fee: $600/group
Length: 6 thours
Limit: 4 to 10 participants
Level: Intermediate to advanced
In this workshop, I demonstrate the techniques that I used to make my three-dimensional quilts "Transitions" and "The Fall."  You learn to create three-dimensional objects and transform them into quilt designs.  You'll develop the shapes, arrange them in a pleasing design, create templates, and choose fabrics to make your shapes look dimensional.  You will begin the design and construction of a 14" x 19" wall hanging.
Materials list: Will be provided

"Story Quilts"

Workshop fee: $450/group
Length: 6 hours
Limit: 4 to 20 participants
Level: Intermediate to advanced
Throw away those templates and let your imagination guide you as you incorporate your favorite theme and plain fabrics into a quilt that tells a story or expresses a mood.   Design a small quilt in one day by combining a variety of scraps, new fabrics, or both.   Start with your favorite theme fabric and use a variety of traditional block designs and improvisational techniques to crate a dynamic quilt design.  Crazy piecing, Bargello, appliqué, and other techniques are explored as you develop your story quilt.
Materials list: Will be provided
